Building a Kubernetes Cluster with Ansible Kubernetes is a new and revolutionary open-sourced system for managing containers across multiple hosts in a cluster. Ansible is a simple IT automation tool for just about any requirement for reproducible environments. In his session at @DevOpsSummit at 18th Cloud Expo, Patrick Galbraith, a principal engineer at HPE, will discuss how to build a fully functional Kubernetes cluster on a number of virtual machines or bare-metal hosts. Also included will be a brief demonstration of building a Kubernetes cluster and then running on it a Galera MySQL cluster. Speaker Bio: Patrick Galbraith is a principal engineer at HPE as a member of the Advanced Technology Group. He is the author or two books: Developing Web Applications with Apache, MySQL, memcached, and Perl (Wiley), and Expert PHP and MySQL (Wiley). In his "spare time," he ... (more)

Container Considerations on Your #DevOps Journey | @DevOpsSummit #AI #Docker #Serverless

Containers are things for your things. That is true in the development world too - containers are things for your software, and, like containers for your things, software containers can help you be organized, efficient, and secure. Chris Morgan (@cmorgan_cloud), the Technical Director, OpenShift Partner Ecosystem at Red Hat, delivered a keynote at the 2016 All Day DevOps conference. Chris lives and breathes containers and recently discussed how they are transforming DevOps pipelines. Chris started with an encouraging figure -- DevOps has a 74% adoption rate (at least on a path towards full adoption) at the enterprise level. The reason is that DevOps helps solve issues around: Slow service delivery Poor service quality Frequent down times However, the needs of development and the desires of IT can often hamper full DevOps adoption, which is where containers can help.  ... Exclusive 2004 Interview with Thomas Kurian | @KubeSUMMIT @GoogleCloud #CloudNative #DevOps #Serverless #Kubernetes

March 5, 2004 Two and a half years ago, when he stepped in to help Oracle get back into the application server business, Thomas Kurian had quite a tough row to hoe. Now he has 19,000 customers. JDJ explores with Kurian his 30-month journey, and asks too about other aspects of emerging technology seen from the Oracle perspective. In JDJ last month, Sun's Jonathan Schwartz claimed the "death" of middleware, so my first question to Thomas Kurian is inevitable, given his role as a champion of middleware for Oracle. What does he make of Schwartz's claim? "Those who say such things are being facetious," replies Kurian, bluntly. "A company that says that there is no role for middleware means it in the sense that it feels its own operating systems incorporate middleware facilities. Such a company is bundling proprietary middleware into the OS as a vehicle to try and lock c... (more)

I’m Not Scared of DevOps | @KubeSUMMIT #DevOps #Serverless #APM #Docker #DataCenter #Monitoring #Kubernetes

DevOps is speeding towards the IT world like a freight train and the hype around it is deafening. There is no reason to be afraid of this change as it is the natural reaction to the agile movement that revolutionized development just a few years ago. By definition, DevOps is the natural alignment of IT performance to business profitability. The relevance of this has yet to be quantified but it has been suggested that the route to the CEO's chair will come from the IT leaders that successfully make the transition to a DevOps model. If this still seems foreign to you, I recommend reading up on DevOps Blog from IT Revolution, the OpsCode Blog, and check out The Phoenix Project. Despite all the talk around simple monitoring tools, breaking through the walls between Dev and Ops still poses a real challenge. This is because of a misunderstanding around Operations real pu... DevOps Summit Was a Terrific Event! | @DevOpsSummit #DevOps #BigData #IoT #Microservices

DevOps Summit at Cloud Expo 2014 Silicon Valley was a terrific event for us. The Qubell booth was crowded on all three days. We ran demos every 30 minutes with folks lining up to get a seat and usually standing around. It was great to meet and talk to over 500 people! My keynote was well received and so was Stan's joint presentation with RingCentral on Devops for BigData. I also participated in two Power Panels - ‘Women in Technology' and ‘Why DevOps Is Even More Important than You Think,' both featuring brilliant colleagues and moderators and it was a blast to be a part of. The Grid Dynamics folks were showcasing their technology called Agile Software Factory that pre-packages many popular open source technologies and tools into a fully integrated technology suite for continuous delivery pipeline, from code changes to production updates. Qubell is used by the Agile... (more)

DevOps Summit Accepting Keynote Proposals | @DevOpsSummit [#DevOps]

DevOps Summit 2015 New York, co-located with the 16th International Cloud Expo - to be held June 9-11, 2015, at the Javits Center in New York City, NY - announces that it is now accepting Keynote Proposals. The widespread success of cloud computing is driving the DevOps revolution in enterprise IT. Now as never before, development teams must communicate and collaborate in a dynamic, 24/7/365 environment. There is no time to wait for long development cycles that produce software that is obsolete at launch. DevOps may be disruptive, but it is essential. The DevOps Summit at Cloud Expo will expand the DevOps community, enable a wide sharing of knowledge, and educate delegates and technology providers alike. Recent research has shown that DevOps dramatically reduces development time, the amount of enterprise IT professionals put out fires, and support time generally. Tim... (more)

The Software Defined Data Center (SDDC), which enables organizations to seamlessly run in a hybrid cloud model (public + private cloud), is here to stay. IDC estimates that the software-defined networking market will be valued at $3.7 billion by 2016. Security is a key component and benefit of the SDDC, and offers an opportunity to build security 'from the ground up' and weave it into the environment from day one. In his session at 16th Cloud Expo, Reuven Harrison, CTO and Co-Founder of Tufin, will discuss the main security considerations enterprises face when rolling out SDDCs and how they can harness key functionality of a virtual environment to achieve more granular security controls across hybrid environments.

DevOps is often described as a combination of technology and culture. Without both, DevOps isn't complete. However, applying the culture to outdated technology is a recipe for disaster; as response times grow and connections between teams are delayed by technology, the culture will die. A Nutanix Enterprise Cloud has many benefits that provide the needed base for a true DevOps paradigm. In their Day 3 Keynote at 20th Cloud Expo, Chris Brown, a Solutions Marketing Manager at Nutanix, and Mark Lavi, a Nutanix DevOps Solution Architect, explored the ways that Nutanix technologies empower teams to react faster than ever before and connect teams in ways that were either too complex or simply impossible with traditional infrastructures.
