Parasoft Service Virtualization Enhances the Simulation of Complex Database and Mainframe Transactions

The industry's most open Service Virtualization solution continues to expand APIs for seamless integration into best-of-breed DevOps, Continuous Integration, ALM, and other SDLC tools

MONROVIA, Calif., March 12, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Parasoft today announced that the latest release of its Service Virtualization introduces enhanced support for managing complex database and mainframe environments.

Large-scale systems have been traditionally difficult to manage in a test lab.  Staged instances, when available, are difficult and time consuming to configure. Moreover, the cost to stage a large system like a mainframe or SAP is significant.  Parasoft's Service Virtualization solution creates a simulated test environment by emulating the transactions associated with these large systems. By simulating and configuring at the message layer, organizations are able to test earlier, faster and more completely.

"Now that Service Virtualization as a technology has begun to hit its stride, organizations are looking to expand Service Virtualization deployments within increasingly complex environments," explained Wayne Ariola, Parasoft Chief Strategy Officer. "Our Service Virtualization solution has already been recognized as the industry leader in 'Platform and Protocol Support,' making it the optimal choice for complex environments like mainframes, SAP, ESBs and high-throughput message brokers.  This release will assist customers to more rapidly construct and manage simulated assets—delivering more complete access to complex environments."

Key capabilities introduced in the new release include:

  • Simplified Creation of SQL-Based Virtual Assets: A redesigned interface simplifies the creation of SQL-based virtual assets—reducing the time and effort involved in defining complex SQL responses. This is especially critical for organizations leveraging complex database or mainframe transactions.
  • Optimized Performance: The virtual asset creation process has been significantly optimized to make it faster and easier for organizations working with large and complex message sets.
  • Redesigned Test Lab Management Interface: The redesigned interface further enhances the speed and ease with which users can understand complex test environments and provision the exact test environment needed to complete a specific task
  • Extended Connectivity and Extensibility:  As part of Parasoft's commitment to being the industry's open,  integrated Service Virtualization solution, we continued to expand our API to enable more seamless integration into your SDLC—for example, your organization's preferred tools for DevOps, Continuous Integration, ALM, etc.

The standardization of container runtimes and images has sparked the creation of an almost overwhelming number of new open source projects that build on and otherwise work with these specifications. Of course, there's Kubernetes, which orchestrates and manages collections of containers. It was one of the first and best-known examples of projects that make containers truly useful for production use. However, more recently, the container ecosystem has truly exploded. A service mesh like Istio addresses many of the challenges faced by developers and operators as monolithic applications transition towards a distributed microservice architecture. A tracing tool like Jaeger analyzes what's happening as a transaction moves through a distributed system. Monitoring software like Prometheus captures time-series events for real-time alerting and other uses. Grafeas and Kritis provide security polic...
